I just spent a weekend in Saarbrücken and got to talk about knitted graffiti to people who were actually interested, I think. The Saarland's university of art and design hosts an annual teacher training day on various subjects, this year's being Urban Art. The knitted graffiti scene has quietened down a great deal since Magda Sayeg started with her "Alpha Piece" - a door handle - in 2005, but we rekindled the fire with a small homage in the form of a crocheted door handle cosy using yarn recycled von Pae White's recent exhibition in Saarbrücken's Gallery of Modern Art. Thanks for being there guys!
Banksy didn't make a personal appearance, although the graffiti had many guessing. But a certain picture frame appeared on a notice board - minus shredder, much to yoga teacher Shilpa's relief. P.S. You can knit this picture frame too...Where's the shredder? // Wie? Kein Schredder?! |
